The ancient village of Trancoso welcomes all visitors in a medieval ambiance that transports us to wonder and dream land.
For its unique features and its good conservation, Trancoso is part of the restricted program of the Portugal Historical Villages .
Located on a vast plateau, at 900 meters high, Trancoso rises in the landscape with its medieval castle and defensive walls.
Arriving to the village from the south side, one come across the frondescent green area of the Municipal Park that invites for healthy work out with its maintenance circuit, following the 18th century S. Bartolomeu Chapel and the commemorative monument of the marriage of king D. Dinis with Queen Saint Isabel.
One of the village main highlights is the Portas d'El Rei. In the historical centre are also quite interesting the ancient Jewish quarter, the town hall building, the Manueline Pillory, the Misericórdia and the São Pedro Church, the house of General Beresford, the Duke's Palace, the Santa Maria de Guimarães Church, the Cavaleiros Street and the Medieval Castle, previous to the Portuguese nationality.
Also, in the surroundings are also located some interesting places, such as the Santa Luzia Chapel, the Anthropomorphic Necropolis, the Nossa Senhora daFresta Church, the Senhor da Calçada Chapel, the Vide Fountain, the Nova Fountain and the Frades Convent.
