Vila Nova de Foz Côa, Pinhel, Trancoso and Penadouro surround the village, 70 km away from Guarda, on a planau, lles Mêda a council inhabited by 15 thousand people and divided in sixteen parish councils. Its income depends mainly on castle raising and traditional agriculture. The soil is rich and the small proprieties are scattered all over the council. Its Table wine is famous and parish councils belong to the demarcated region of the Porto wine, here know as fine wine.
The views from Santa Barbara (Coriscada), Paipenela, Marialva castle, Ranhados Dam and the clock tower of Mêda are outstanding. Pré historic paintigs and other findings show that region has really ancient.
